So, sure, hunting is a lot of work and it takes scouting- and some “luck”. But, honestly, I don’t know that hunting has anything to do with the actual hunting- that’s just a bonus.
Because in the end it’s about the smiles. It was probably one of the first things I learned- because it simply makes my husband happy. So, I’ve learned to “hunt”- in deer season, just with a camera- but more importantly to get involved and enjoy it with him.
Who wouldn’t want to spend time in a place like this?
With someone crazy like this? And his talking turkey? Who always makes me smile?
The thing is that we have a lot of fun out at the deer lease. It’s our playground so to speak. We somehow manage to have fun even in the not so great times- choosing to make it fun. Like this instance where the hogs knocked down his feeder and dragged his barrel and mechanism down the hill and almost out to the road- We played NCIS and followed the mechanism pieces to the barrel. (We lost three barrels that year- and then began putting a fence around his feeders.)
Of course, Cody is just a nut and he makes me laugh.
He took our nieces’ frog with us hunting. And what is it with him and a broom?
One thing he’s always done is be supportive and understanding- he’s never made me hunt and he always tries to do what he can to make sure I enjoy it- like letting me take my camera with us. . . and stopping to take flower pictures after flower picture. Even his friends put up with me and the camera.
That picture has got to be one of my all time favorites from out there- it captures Cody’s relationship with Gil so well- and just why we love Gil. It also sums it all up- it’s just fun to be out there.
